Frequently asked questions

Does this actually remove the text?

Pages with redaction boxes are rasterized and those areas are filled with black, so the original text and images under the box are not in the downloaded file. Unmarked pages are copied as-is. This is not a forensic sanitizer for every metadata channel.

Is it safe for confidential documents?

Yes. Your file is processed entirely within your browser and never leaves your device.

Can I undo the redaction later?

No. Once applied and downloaded, the redacted data is permanently destroyed in the new file.

Why does text stop being selectable after I redact?

Any page you mark is rebuilt as an image so the underlying text cannot be recovered. That page is no longer selectable or searchable, and the file size can change. Pages you did not mark are copied through untouched.

Does it also clean hidden data like the author name?

No. Redaction handles what is on the pages you mark. Document properties such as author and producer are separate — clear those with Remove PDF Metadata.
