- Does this count spaces and line breaks?
- Yes. You get totals with spaces and without, so you can match platform rules that include or exclude whitespace. Line breaks count as whitespace in the with-spaces total.
- What does the “special” count include?
- Anything that is not a letter, a number, or whitespace — punctuation, symbols, currency marks, and emoji. Letters, numbers, spaces, and special characters are listed separately so you can see what is inflating the total.
- Are emojis counted as one character?
- Counts use Unicode code points, so most single emojis count as one visible character. Complex emoji sequences built from several code points (skin tones, family emoji) count as more than one.
- Which character limits should I aim for?
- Common targets are about 160 characters for a single SMS, roughly 155–160 for a meta description, and platform-specific caps for bios and headlines. Check the current limit on the destination platform — they change over time.
- Should I use Character Counter or Word Counter?
- Use Character Counter when a field has a hard character cap. Use Word Counter when the requirement is a word count or you also want reading and speaking time.
- Is Character Counter private?
- Yes. Text never leaves your browser. We do not log or store what you paste.
