- Does EAN-8 validate the checksum?
- Where the format requires a check digit (such as EAN/UPC/ITF-14), the tool helps you enter or verify a valid value before export.
- Can scanners read the downloaded barcode?
- Yes, when printed or displayed at sufficient size and contrast. Test with your scanner before production use.
- Is barcode generation private?
- Yes. Values are rendered locally. Nothing is uploaded to NeedAnyTool servers.
- When should I use EAN-8 instead of EAN-13?
- Only when the packaging is genuinely too small for a 13-digit barcode — small cosmetics, confectionery, or single-serve items. EAN-13 is the default for retail because EAN-8 numbers are a scarce resource that GS1 allocates sparingly.
- How many digits do I enter?
- Seven, and the eighth check digit is calculated for you. If you already have the full 8-digit code, paste it and the check digit is validated instead of recalculated.
- Does NeedAnyTool issue official EAN-8 numbers?
- No. This renders a barcode image from digits you provide. Numbers for products sold in shops must be allocated by your national GS1 member organisation.
- Why does it say “Invalid EAN-8 checksum”?
- The eighth digit does not match what the first seven calculate to, which usually means a typo. Delete the last digit and enter just seven so the correct check digit is generated for you.
