- Does UPC-A validate the checksum?
- Where the format requires a check digit (such as EAN/UPC/ITF-14), the tool helps you enter or verify a valid value before export.
- Can scanners read the downloaded barcode?
- Yes, when printed or displayed at sufficient size and contrast. Test with your scanner before production use.
- Is barcode generation private?
- Yes. Values are rendered locally. Nothing is uploaded to NeedAnyTool servers.
- What is the difference between UPC-A and EAN-13?
- UPC-A is 12 digits and standard in the US and Canada; EAN-13 is 13 digits and used elsewhere. They are the same underlying system — a UPC-A is simply an EAN-13 with a leading zero — and modern scanners read both.
- How many digits do I enter?
- Eleven, and the twelfth check digit is calculated for you. Paste all twelve if you already have the full UPC and it will be validated instead.
- Does NeedAnyTool sell or register UPC numbers?
- No. This tool draws a barcode from digits you already have. UPC numbers for products sold in retail must be licensed through GS1 US or an authorised reseller.
- Will the barcode scan at a real checkout?
- The image is a correctly formed UPC-A, so a POS scanner will read it if printed at adequate size and contrast with the quiet zone intact. Whether the till recognises the product depends on the retailer’s database, not the barcode.
