Frequently asked questions
What if my JSON is invalid?
The tool shows a readable error instead of crashing. The usual culprits are a trailing comma after the last item, single quotes instead of double quotes, an unquoted key, or an unclosed bracket.
How does it validate JSON?
Input is parsed with the browser’s own strict JSON parser, so anything that parses here is valid JSON by the specification — comments and trailing commas are rejected, just as they would be by an API.
Can I minify JSON here too?
Yes. Switch to Minify to collapse JSON to a single line after it validates. Beautify and minify are both on this page, so you can round-trip between them.
What indentation does Pretty use?
Two spaces per level, which is the common default for JSON files and API examples.
Is this JSON formatter really private?
Yes. Formatting happens in your browser with no network request, which matters when the payload contains access tokens, personal data, or an unreleased API response. Close the tab and the text is gone.
Is my input uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a NeedAnyTool server for these tools.
