Who we are
SpeakReady (“the App”) is a spoken-English practice application (Play Store title: SpeakReady: AI English Tutor; Android package: com.needanytool.aienglishtutor). This policy describes how the App collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use SpeakReady on Android. Operator / publisher: iCorp Overseas Consulting Private Limited, under the Need Any Tool brand. Need Any Tool is the Google Play developer name. Contact for privacy and data requests: icorpplaystore@gmail.com. Website: https://needanytool.com. Account-deletion page: https://needanytool.com/speakready/legal/account-deletion. This policy URL: https://needanytool.com/speakready/legal/privacy. This policy applies only to the SpeakReady mobile app. The Need Any Tool website at https://needanytool.com may have a separate privacy policy covering information collected through the website.
What SpeakReady is (and is not)
SpeakReady helps you practise workplace and everyday English through:
- bundled lessons, quizzes, and a phrasebook on your device
- optional cloud AI speaking coach, mock interview, and workplace roleplay (requires an account)
- Pronunciation Lab, which compares your recognised words with a target phrase (transcript matching, not phoneme-level or medical accent analysis)
- optional daily practice reminders
- optional SpeakReady Plus subscription and banner advertising for free users
The App does not promise jobs, interviews, fluency in a set number of days, or an official assessment of accent, CEFR level, or hiring readiness. AI feedback can be incomplete or wrong.
Information you provide
You should not include passwords, government ID numbers, health data, or confidential employer information in practice answers.
| Data | When | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Email and password | Sign-up / sign-in | Create and authenticate a cloud account |
| Display name (optional) | Sign-up | Show on your profile |
| Learning preferences | Onboarding and Settings | Goal, level, explanation language, role, daily target, theme, speech locale, TTS rate |
| Practice answers | When you type or speak in a session | Lesson scoring, local history, and (if signed in) AI feedback |
| Content reports | When you tap Flag this response | Review AI-generated content you marked as a problem |
| Account-deletion request | Settings or the hosted deletion page | Delete your cloud account |
Information from your device
Microphone access is used for practice you start. It is not used for background listening.
| Data | When | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone audio | Only after you tap Speak / start recognition | Convert speech to text on the device (Android speech recognition). The App does not keep raw recordings on the device by default and does not upload raw audio for pronunciation scoring in the current release. |
| Speech-recognition transcript | After a successful recognition | Show what you said; send text (not audio) to cloud AI when you request coach, interview, or roleplay feedback |
| Notification permission | If you enable reminders | Schedule a local daily reminder |
| Network status | While online features run | Show offline banners and avoid failed cloud calls |
Information stored on your device
Guest and signed-in users store locally (typically via on-device storage):
- onboarding and profile preferences
- lesson progress, streaks, practice minutes, achievements
- session history (transcripts and AI feedback already received)
- saved vocabulary
- theme and speech settings
- a local usage estimate for display (cloud AI limits are enforced on the server when configured)
Clearing app data or using Settings → Clear local learning data removes this device copy. It does not by itself delete a cloud account.
Information stored in the cloud (signed-in users only)
If you create an account, the backend may store:
- profile and learning preferences
- lesson progress
- speaking, interview, and roleplay session records (including transcripts and structured AI feedback)
- saved vocabulary
- daily practice counters used for AI usage limits
- premium_until (subscription end time written by a trusted billing webhook, not by you)
- content-flag reports you submit
- authentication records (email / user id)
Cloud rows are intended to be visible only to your signed-in user under row-level security, plus the operator’s trusted server functions. Authentication is provided by Supabase.
Information we do not collect by default
By default, SpeakReady does not collect:
- raw audio files for upload
- precise GPS location
- contacts, photos, or files (unless Android system speech services use them independently of SpeakReady)
- payment card numbers (Google Play handles payments)
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- run lessons, pronunciation transcript matching, and local progress
- authenticate you and sync progress when you sign in
- send your transcript and session context to a server-side AI provider so you can receive coaching, interview, or roleplay feedback
- enforce daily AI usage limits on the server
- process content reports
- delete your account when you request it
- show or hide banner ads for non-subscribers
- send optional practice reminders you enable
- optionally send product analytics events if you leave analytics on and an analytics endpoint is configured
We do not sell your personal information.
On-device speech
When you speak, Android speech recognition (and device text-to-speech for playback) may process audio on the device or through Google’s speech services, subject to your Android and Google account settings. SpeakReady requests the microphone only for a practice turn you start.
Cloud AI (signed-in users)
Cloud AI is not available to guests. If you sign in and request feedback, the App sends a bounded text payload (topic, prompt, transcript, short history) to Supabase Edge Functions. Those functions call an OpenAI-compatible provider (typically OpenAI or Groq). API keys stay on the server. The provider may process that text to generate feedback. The provider’s own privacy terms also apply.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation Lab compares the recognised transcript with the target text. It does not currently perform phoneme-level acoustic scoring, accent scoring, or fluency measurement. Results are labelled as transcript / text-match feedback.
AI-generated content
AI replies can be incorrect or inappropriate. You can report a reply with Flag this response. Reports are stored for review (locally as a copy and, when signed in and configured, in the cloud content_flags table). Success is shown only after the report is recorded when the backend is available.
Advertising
Free users may see banner ads on Home, Learn, and Progress. Ads are not placed inside live speaking sessions, lesson questions, or the purchase flow. Advertising uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and, where required (for example EEA/UK), Google’s User Messaging Platform consent form. Google may collect advertising identifiers and device signals according to Google’s advertising privacy disclosures at https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can manage ad personalisation in your Google account and Android settings. SpeakReady Plus subscribers with an active verified entitlement do not see those banners. Rewarded ads that grant extra cloud AI turns are disabled in the current release unless a future server-verified reward is configured. The paywall should not promise extra AI turns from watching an ad.
Subscriptions and payments
Optional SpeakReady Plus subscriptions (weekly, monthly, and/or annual, depending on what is configured in Google Play and RevenueCat) are billed by Google Play.
- Prices and renewal terms come from the store, not from hardcoded amounts in the App.
- RevenueCat receives purchase and entitlement events so the App can unlock Plus features (higher daily AI limits and ad-free banners).
- A server webhook may update your cloud premium_until date so AI quotas stay aligned with the subscription.
- Google and RevenueCat process payment data under their own policies. SpeakReady does not receive your full card number.
Manage or cancel in Google Play subscription settings or the in-app Customer Center when available.
Analytics
If Product analytics is on in Settings and an analytics endpoint is configured, the App may send event names and short, sanitised properties (for example feature used, success/fail). Analytics code is designed not to send raw audio, authentication secrets, or fields named like transcript, password, or token. If no analytics endpoint is configured, events are not sent to a remote sink (they may appear only in development logs). You can turn analytics off in Settings. There is no crash-reporting SDK shipped as a default product dependency in the current release.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, the App may schedule a local daily reminder (for example around 7:30 pm). This uses Android notification permission. Reminders are not used for marketing unless you later enable a separate feature that is disclosed at that time.
Sharing
We share information only as needed to operate the App. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users from abuse or security incidents.
| Recipient | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Account, progress, sessions, flags, quotas | Hosting database, auth, and Edge Functions |
| AI provider (OpenAI and/or Groq, as configured) | Practice text sent for feedback | Generate coaching JSON |
| Google Play / Google billing | Purchase tokens and account linkage Play already has | Subscriptions |
| RevenueCat | App user id (intended to be your Supabase user UUID when signed in) and entitlement events | Restore purchases and Premium state |
| Google AdMob / UMP | Ad requests and consent signals | Show ads to free users |
| Android / Google speech services | Audio you submit for recognition; TTS text | Speech-to-text and spoken prompts |
| Optional analytics endpoint | Sanitised events | Product improvement |
Retention
How long information is typically kept:
| Data | Typical retention |
|---|---|
| Local device progress | Until you clear app data, uninstall, or use Clear local learning data |
| Cloud profile and progress | Until you delete your account or the operator deletes it |
| Session transcripts in the cloud | Until you delete the account (local history is also capped, currently about 200 sessions on device) |
| Usage counters | Daily UTC counters for AI limits |
| Content flags | Until reviewed and removed by the operator, or account deletion |
| Auth account | Until you delete the account |
Exact backup retention on Supabase or Google depends on those platforms’ settings.
Security
The App is designed so that:
- AI provider keys and the Supabase service role key stay on the server, not in the mobile bundle
- cloud tables use row-level security so a user can access only their own rows
- sessions use Supabase authentication
- client “I am Premium” flags are not the authority for cloud AI quotas; the server uses premium_until and reservation RPCs
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Protect your password and device lock.
Your choices
You can:
- Use guest / offline lessons without creating an account.
- Decline microphone permission and type answers where the App offers a typed fallback.
- Turn analytics off in Settings.
- Disable reminders in Settings.
- Restore or cancel subscriptions in Google Play.
- Delete cloud account in Settings (signed-in users) or use https://needanytool.com/speakready/legal/account-deletion. Deletion requires confirmation. Success is shown only after the server confirms deletion; then local learning data on that device is cleared.
- Clear local learning data without deleting the cloud account.
- Request access or correction by emailing icorpplaystore@gmail.com.
Account deletion removes associated application data the deletion function is written to delete (profile, settings, progress, sessions, vocabulary, usage rows, content flags) and the Supabase Auth user. It does not cancel a Google Play subscription by itself — cancel that in Google Play to stop billing.
Children
SpeakReady is intended for learners who can create an account and practise independently. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). Do not create an account for a child below that age. If you believe we have collected such data, contact icorpplaystore@gmail.com so it can be deleted.
International processing
Your information may be processed in the country where you use the App and in regions used by Supabase, the AI provider, Google, and RevenueCat. Those regions may have different data-protection laws than your home country.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the Last updated date on this page and, where practical, note the change in an app update. Continued use after the update means you accept the revised policy, unless a law requires additional consent.
